Daiquiri:
Rum, Lime Juice, Gomme Syrup - Created for Charles Schwab, president
of Bethlehem Steel, on his visit to the Daiquiri iron mines in Santiago,
Cuba in 1898.
Manhattan:
Bourbon/Rye, Vermouth, Angostura - Many suggest this celebrated
cocktail was created in 1874 at the Manhattan Club, New York for
Lady Randolph Churchill.
Bloody
Mary:
Vodka, Tomato Juice, Worcestershire & Tabasco Sauce, Salt &
Pepper, Lemon Juice, Celery Salt - First prepared in Harry's New
York Bar in Paris in the 1920's and named after Queen Mary I, daughter
of Henry VIII.
Kir:
White Wine, Cassis - Canon Felix Kir, mayor of Dijon in 1950's France,
served this as an aperitif to promote a local white wine. Now a
widely popular pre-dinner ritual.
Old
Fashioned:
Bourbon, Sugar, Angostura - A bitter-sweet combination originating
in Louisville, Kentucky, which resulted in the naming of the glass
from which it is drunk.
Negroni:
Campari, Vermouth, Gin - Realized in the Jacosa Bar in Florence
in the 1920's this is simply an Americano fortified with gin; its
creator: one Count Camillo Negroni.
Sidecar:
Brandy, Lemon Juice, Triple Sec - Another Harry MacElhone creation
born in Harry's New York Bar in Paris just after WWI, named after
the eccentric army captain who insisted on being chauffeur-driven
to the bar in a motorcycle sidecar.
